'Silent Hills' P.T. Taken Off PlayStation Store, But Don't Worry: You Can Redownload It If You Had It Previously

It's been a rough few weeks for horror game fans. Amidst news that Hideo Kojima's relationship with Konami was falling apart, many fans feared what it might mean for the Kojima led Silent Hills game, first announced roughly a year ago via a PlayStation 4 exclusive "playable teaser", or "P.T." for short.

Now we know the truth. Silent Hills is canceled, and the much talked about P.T. has been taken off the PlayStation Store, as Konami apparently doesn't see much point in having a teaser up for a game that will never be seeing the light of day.

It's tears all around, but there is a small glimmer of hope in the darkness. While new PlayStation owners won't be able to download and experience P.T. for themselves, those who have already downloaded the teaser and linked it to their PlayStation Network account will be able to delete and reinstall P.T. without having to worry about it being lost forever. If you've deleted P.T. and would like to reinstall it, simply go to your game library, where you will still be able to access the P.T. store page and download the teaser once again.

Whew. That's a relief. Still, it's a major downer for gamers who never got the chance to experience the truly bizarre and terrifying experience that P.T. offered. PS4 systems with P.T. still installed on the console's hard drive are already appearing on eBay for upwards of $1,500. It might not be worth that much, but it is definitely a unique experience that every horror fan will want to take for a spin.

Konami says that while Silent Hills is officially dead, the company is still planning on creating new Silent Hill games. Silent Hills was to be a collaboration between Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro, starring Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame. Other than that, little was known about the project. It was never clear if P.T. was an accurate representation of what the full Silent Hills game would be like or simply a "mood piece" to get players excited for the game.

We also don't know how far along in development the game was. One assumes Kojima was (and still is) occupied with finishing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which throws into question just how much work was being done on the next installment in Konami's horror franchise. With Silent Hills canceled and the playable teaser swept away, the world may never know.
