What's there not to like about the Memphis Grizzlies' big men Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph?
Watching them maneuver in the post is thoroughly entertaining, as each frontcourt star posesses a light feathery touch with their jump shot, but can also body-up to defenders with some old-school bully basketball.
Think the old men who come to the park and destroy their younger foes with every post move in the book. That's Gasol and Randolph.
That was more than on display Wednesday night, when Gasol notched 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Z-Bo added 16 points and eight boards to lead the Grizzlies to a 99-93 win over Portland, eliminating the Trail Blazers in five games.
Together, Gasol and Z-Bo stifled Trail Blazers' All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge into having a disappointing series. Just take a look at some of the many low-post moves that Marc Gasol has in his arsenal and used to perfection Wednesday night.
With the win, the fifth-seed Grizzlies now advance to face the No. 1 Golden State Warriors, with MVP candidate Stephen Curry, in the Western Conference semifinal series.
Meanwhile Gasol wasn't the only big man to put in some heavy work in the paint Wednesday night. Atlanta Hawks' All-Star center Al Horford muscled the Brooklyn Nets for 20 points and 15 rebounds, as the Hawks won a critical Game 5, 107-97, to take a 3-2 series lead. Remember, the No. 1 Hawks are trying to put an end to the eighth-seed Nets' upset chances and move on to face a waiting and confident fifth-seed Washington Wizards.
