The "Man Without Fear" is here to stay--for another season, at least.
Netflix has announced that it is picking up Marvel's Daredevil for a second season after the show proved to be such a hit for the streaming media company.
The big announcement comes a week after Netflix launched its new audio description feature, second soundtrack that describes the on-screen sequences of the show geared toward visually impaired viewers.
The second season is expected to be just as exciting, if not, more of a blockbuster for fans despite Steven DeKnight telling fans that he will not return for another season to focus on Sony's upcoming Sinister Six film.
Doug Petrie of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and American Horror Story, and Marco Ramirez of Sons of Anarchy will take over as showrunners for Daredevil's second season. Petrie and Ramirez have worked closely with Executive Producers Drew Goddard and DeKnight during the first season of the show. Petrie, Ramirez, and Goddard will continue on as Executive Producers along with Jeph Loeb.
"While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch," DeKnight said. "They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward"
The success of Daredevil's first season provides an excellent opportunity for Marvel and Netflix to bring in its other new superhero shows.
Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones is set to premiere later this year while Marvel's Luke Cage will join Netflix in 2016. Marvel's Iron Fist and the superheroes' much-awaited team up in Marvel's Defenders will also be launched in the coming months.
Netflix's Audio Description Feature
A new addition to the show that fans should watch out for is the audio description feature introduced by Netflix for its programs.
Daredevil is one of the first Netflix shows to offer this special functionality, especially after blind fans criticized the show for not being considerate of their situation.
One of the show's fans, Ryan Dyck, wrote on his Change.org to appeal the oversight.
"Netflix's new show Daredevil is about a blind lawyer turned superhero -- and it seems unfair that if he were a Netflix subscriber, he wouldn't even be able to enjoy his own show," Dyck said.
He pointed out that Netflix productions do not offer important accessibility features for visually impaired customers. He said that blind people rely on a "visual description" option to allow them to know what is going on in the show, but the function does not exist for Netflix's original content.
After considering the appeal of thousands of visually impaired fans of the show, Netflix decided to implement audio-description tracks for select shows beginning with the blind hero's show itself Daredevil.
