For the past few years, Seth Rollins has been climbing the WWE ladder by any means necessary. After making a name for himself in NXT, he and the Shield moved onto the official WWE roster.
After dismantling the Shield and siding with the Authority, Rollins went on to capture the coveted Money in the Bank contract. After biding his time, he finally managed to secure the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
A lot of those accomplishments are thanks to one move, and one move only: the Curb Stomp. It's such a simple technique, and yet, it works so well with his in-ring persona — it's quick, it's brutal and it looks absolutely devastating.
Unfortunately, it might be a bit too devastating: according to sources inside the WWE (via WrestleZone), the company may be in the process of banning the move from competition — effectively stripping Rollins of his go-to finishing move.
Basically, it seems as if the WWE is worried that the Curb Stomp is too large a threat to the head and neck of an athlete. The company has been taking steps to ensure that head injuries and concussions — two of the most prevalent injuries in the business — are less frequent than they have been in the past. It makes sense, but it's unfortunate that the move will take the biggest gun in Rollins' arsenal away from him.
Of course, with recent reports that Daniel Bryan had been removed from the WWE's European tour due to safety concerns, maybe it's not so far-fetched that the Curb Stomp is set to be retired. Whether or not the Tombstone Piledriver and other similar moves will suffer the same fate is still up in the air, but it's easy to imagine that such risky techniques won't be around for such longer.
We'll miss you, Curb Stomp.
