San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich could care less for reporters' dry questions — especially in the aftermath of a playoff loss.
After the Los Angeles Clippers wiped the hardwood with the Spurs – 107-92, in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series Sunday night – Pop was clearly not in the mood to hold court for the media and their inquiries.
After being brief with a couple of questions, it didn't take Popovich long to begin seething with annoyance at the postgame conference.
The question that did it: “Coach, there seemed to be some good ball movement with your team a lot of times. There were some other times where they seemed erratic or out of control. Could you talk about that please?”
"What you said is correct," Pop offered as a response. "I mean how long do you want me to talk about it. Maybe I can help everybody by just making a statement. Would that help? Because these questions are unbelievable."
The moment was just one of many press conferences in which Popovich slays the media. And we're talking only press conferences. (His rapport and classic exchanges with Craig Sager and other sideline reporters aren't even included here.) Take a look at some of our favorites through the years.
If Pop's looks could kill, the journalists from this postgame conference following the Spurs' Game 6 NBA Finals loss to the Miami Heat would be dead. That's the game in which the Heat famously erased a five-point deficit in 28 seconds and then went on to win a decisive Game 7 for the league title.
This press conference began with Pop telling a reporter he couldn't understand him with food in his mouth. Brutally honest.
Not all of Pop's conferences are frowns and scowls, though. Here, the Spurs coach couldn't believe a question, pondering, "You really think I could explain that? Good lord... and they pay you, don't they?" Reporter's response: "Very little." That drew a big laugh from the grizzled veteran coach.
And he keeps things even shorter in pregame pressers. Can you say one-word press conference?
Anyone else?
