Ever since NetherRealm Studios started introducing new characters, one thing was for certain: Mortal Kombat X was all about moving forward. New characters, new moves, new mechanics — everything about Mortal Kombat X was designed from the ground up to move the series forward
Mortal Kombat 9 was a rebirth for the series, but the next game would push the franchise further than it ever had been.
Of course, not everything about Mortal Kombat X is new — without some traditions, the game would be unrecognizable to long-time fans. Classic characters and stages were included in the game to appease long-time fans of the franchise, but there was one notable bit of nostalgia missing: classic Fatalities. Scorpion's "Toasty!" Fatality, Sub-Zero's Spine Rip, Sonya's Kiss of Death ... these were Fatalities that defined a generation of Mortal Kombat fans.
If you missed those moves while playing through Mortal Kombat X, fear not: according to the game's Steam listing, 'Klassic Fatality Packs' will be making their way into MKX as downloadable content.
The listing, which was first discovered by the official Mortal Kombat subreddit, details all of the game's upcoming DLC. Everything from the Kombat Pass to free character skins are represented; it's basically a listing of everything fans should expect to see over the next few months. Look toward the bottom of the list, and you'll find listings for two pieces of DLC: Klassic Fatalities 1 and 2.
While every character in the game comes with two Fatalities, it appears as if some of the returning fighters will be getting a third. It's something that NetherRealm Studios has done before, as those who preordered Mortal Kombat 9 received access to Scorpion's "Toasty!" Fatality. It's easy to assume that something similar will be included here, but exactly how many Fatalities or fighters will be included is still a mystery.
While most of the reviews for Mortal Kombat X have been extremely positive, a few reviewers did complain that the game was marred by microtransactions. While the original microtransactions didn't really affect the experience, forcing players to pay extra for classic Fatalities probably isn't the best way to thank fans for buying the game.
As of this writing, neither NetherRealm Studios nor Warner Bros. have made a statement, and the Klassic Fatalities returning as DLC is still just a rumor. That being said, there's a pretty good chance that fans may have a few more options when it comes to killing opponents within the next few months ... but whether or not they'll be paying for them is another question entirely.
Mortal Kombat X is available now.
