Video game NBA 2K15 has predicted that the Golden State Warriors will come out of the 2015 NBA Playoffs as the NBA champions.
The NBA Playoffs started last weekend, with the Warriors slipping past the New Orleans Pelicans at a score of 106-99. NBA MVP candidate Stephen Curry scored 34 points with 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals to lead the Warriors over the Pelicans, which were led Anthony Davis with 35 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.
The Warriors, the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, are now up 1-0 in the best-of-seven series with the No. 8 Pelicans, which were only able to lock up their entry into the playoffs at the final day of the season.
According to a simulation run by NBA 2K15, the Warriors will be able to continue their winning ways all the way to the NBA championship, for what would be the franchise's first title since 1975 when it was Rick Barry that was leading the team.
The playoffs simulation by NBA 2K15 has the Warriors beating the Lebron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, claiming the championship through a 4-2 series win. Stephen Curry was selected as the NBA Finals MVP.
According to the simulation, the Cavaliers won in 5 games against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern conference playoffs, a series where the Cavaliers have a 1-0 lead. The simulation saw the Cavaliers also win in 5 games against a gritty Chicago Bulls squad that has former MVP Derrick Rose back in the playoffs for the first time since 2012. The Cavaliers then eliminated the Eastern Conference's top seed, the Atlanta Hawks, in six games to reach the NBA Finals.
For the Golden State Warriors, the simulation saw the team beat the Pelicans in their current series with a 4-1 win. The Warriors would then win against the injury-marred Portland Trail Blazers in six games. The simulation then matches up the Warriors against the defending champion San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, where the Warriors are expected to come out on top but not until after the seventh game of the series.
While relying on a simulation by a video game is not really a scientific way of predicting the outcome of the NBA Playoffs, sports video games have recently been performing well in this regard. In February, Madden NFL 15 was able to correctly predict the winner of the Super Bowl between the News England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, and even the game's final score.
