Director Michelle MacLaren is officially no longer directing the stand-alone Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot.
In an official statement Warner Bros. cited "creative differences" as the reason behind the split. What Warner Bros. fails to mention is that those creative differences may have involved a talking pet tiger.
Yes, you read that correctly. According to Badass Digest, MacLaren and Warner Bros. couldn't agree on nearly anything about the film. One of those disagreements seems to have been about a pet tiger/sidekick that Wonder Woman could talk to. It's unclear if the tiger could talk back.
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain Wonder Woman never talks to a tiger in the comics. Given how completely absurd and zany the DC Comic universe is, that's actually saying something. It sounds like MacLaren actually managed to create something too outside the box for DC to consider. Given how dark and serious the DC Cinematic universe appears to be, it is probably for the best that the Wonder Woman film won't feature a tiger sidekick. That would be weird.
But the tiger was just one of the many disagreements between the two parties. Badass Digest also says MacLaren and Warner Bros. couldn't decide on something as simple as what time period the film would take place in.
MacLaren is said to have played a major role in developing the scripts for the film, so it is now unclear how much of her original story will appear in the final product. Wonder Woman would have been MacLaren's first feature film, having previously directed episodes of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
Wonder Woman is currently without a director and slated for release in the summer of 2017. No word yet on whether or not Aquaman will have a pet fish that he talks to in his movie. Perhaps a tiger shark is worth considering?
