Syfy recently released a new trailer for its upcoming science fiction adventure thriller Dark Matter, and the network feels so confident about the new series that it plans on premiering the show globally on June 12.
The 13-part series, based on the Dark Horse graphic novel of the same name, tells the story of six people who wake from stasis on a spaceship with no memory of how they got there.
In fact, they have no memories at all and have to search through the spaceship for clues to their identity. There's also a remote mining colony on the brink of war, and obviously, the crew have no idea which side of that war they're on.
The series has some heavy-hitting science fiction hitters at its helm, including Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie of Stargate-fame as its creators (they also created the graphic novel that acts as the basis for the TV series).
Dark Matter stars Melissa O'Neil, Marc Bendavid (Bitten), Anthony Lemke (White House Down), Alex Mallari Jr. (Robocop), Jodelle Ferland (Twilight), Roger Cross (The Strain) and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl). The series' executive producers, in addition to Mallozi and Mullie, are Jay Firestone and Vanessa Piazza.
Stargate SG-1's Amanda Tapping will direct one episode of the series, with Stargate Atlantis' Tori Higginson filling a role in the series as a guest star.
Dark Matter won't just air in the U.S. on June 12, though. The series hits airwaves all over the world on the same day, including Australia, Asia, Central Europe, U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Latin America.
"We are pleased to be making Dark Matter a global Syfy experience, expressed to air shortly after the U.S. debut this summer," says Steve Patscheck, executive VP of programming at Universal Networks International. "Wherever possible we aim to bring our viewers new content at the same time as it premieres in the U.S., ensuring that Syfy viewers around the world can share a global experience."
This is yet another science fiction program added to the network's line-up as part of its recent re-commitment to science fiction television.
