More images of Sony's upcoming flagship phone, the Xperia Z4, have leaked online. Meanwhile – in spite of talk indicating otherwise – the company asserts that its mobile division isn't going anywhere, for now.
The phone features a 20.7 MP camera on its back, placed on the left side — unlike the Xperia Z3, which had the camera on the right. A set of stereo speakers are positioned at the top and bottom of the phone's 5.2-inch display.
While some have speculated that the Xperia Z4's storage would go the route of the iPhone and Samsung's latest flagship smartphone by omitting support for expandable storage, the latest set of leaked images show what appears to be a microSD slot on the side of the phone.
Also, unlike its rivals, the Xperia Z4 will be water-resistant to a depth of about 4.9 feet, for up to 30 minutes, according to reports.
The Xperia Z4 is expected to be powered by an octa-core, 1.9 GHz Snapdragon 810 and an Adreno 430 graphics processor. The 5.2-inch display is expected to output full-HD resolution with a pixel density of about 432 pixels per inch.
While the latest set of images shows the rear camera labeled 20.7 MP, there are no indications as to what the resolution of the chat cam will be. The front camera is rumored to be 5 MP.
The Xperia Z4 will fueled by a 3400 mAh battery and stock 32 GB of memory. There have been conflicting reports about the amount of RAM the handset will have, with some suggesting it will include 3GB and others asserting it'll be equipped with 4GB.
There has been much speculation that the Xperia Z4 could be Sony's last entry into the smartphone market, with the company's entire mobile division facing cuts under Sony's latest strategy to improve its finances. Sitting in 10th place in the mobile phone market and holding about a two percent share, Sony has struggled to gain its footing and move significant growth.
Kazuo Hirai, the CEO of Sony, recently stated that he couldn't guarantee the safety of the mobile division. Benelux Catherine Cherry, director of marketing for Sony Mobile's UK arm, is however taking a very different position.
"Sony Mobile is here to say, we are absolutely going to focus on delivering profitable growth," Cherry told reporters in London.
