A new report claims Apple is making some changes to iOS 8 that could speed things up and make it easier to use, when it shows it off at WWDC in June.
Apple just released iOS 7.1 to the public after months of testing and we're now beginning to find out what the company might have in store for us when it shows off iOS 8 at WWDC in June. As we get closer, you can bet there are going to be tons of leaks on expected new features and probably a few blurry pictures claiming to be the iWatch or iPhone 6.
We got our first look at iOS 8's Home screen thanks to leaked images that also showed four new applications; Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit, and Tips. Healthbook is expected to store a user's health information and interact with the iWatch and iPhone's motion processor to monitor things like steps, calories burned, and sleep information. Preview and TextEdit are believed to be shortcuts to saved iCloud images and documents. While Tips is expected to be an interactive way for new iPhone users to get familiar with iOS 8. Apple is also said to be making some changes and tweaks to existing iOS apps and features.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is considering making changes to Notification Center in iOS 8. Notification Center could become more simplified by reducing the current three panels of "Today", "All", and "Missed" into a single "Today" view with notifications.
The site claims that Apple is planning to give Voice Memos some design tweaks. The company is reportedly going to move around some of the controls in the application to make it easier for users to tell if a memo needs to be clicked to play recordings. Messages could get a tweak to help address device storage space. Apple is supposedly looking into adding the ability to automatically delete messages after a month or after a year to free up space. If Apple does add this feature, it will almost certainly be optional since most people like their messages to not have an expiration date.
The site also claims that Apple has been working on ways to speed up iOS 8 when compared to iOS 7. iOS 8 is said to feature sped up animations and apps will open and close more quickly. Remember, it's always best to take these reports with a grain of salt, but these do sound like the kind of refinements we can expect as part of iOS 8.
