When Syfy announced that a new space drama series, Killjoys, was in production last year, most science fiction fans were already sold on the premise.
When we learned that the producers of that series had worked on other shows, such as Lost Girl and Orphan Black, we were even more excited.
Now, Killjoys finally has an official trailer and a release date: June 19.
So what is Killjoys about? Fans of Firefly are likely to love this official show description from the network:
"Killjoys follows a fun-loving, hard-living trio of interplanetary bounty hunters as they chase deadly warrants throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multi-planetary class war."
Interplanetary bounty hunters? Multi-planetary war? We're in!
At last year's Syfy digital press tour, Killjoys star Aaron Ashmore (Warehouse 13), along with producers Michelle Lovreta (Lost Girl) and Emily Andras (Orphan Black) spoke with media and gave details on the series. Obviously, there were many mentions of that space drama that broke all our hearts with its cancellation, Firefly.
Of course, Killjoys isn't Firefly, but it might fill that empty place in our soul left in that series' wake.
"I think the makeup of the team and the characters as well will resonate with the viewers," says Andras.. "It feels quite fresh, actually. You may be surprised at the way the team interacts. I think it's unexpected, but feels really grounded and fun. And as they try to find their way, I think that's a great journey to go on, as they try to find their way, working together as killjoys, it's a gas."
Sci-fi fans, though, might be more interested in the bounty hunters' ship, Lucy. Ashmore refers to the ship as a fourth character on the series and thinks that it will impress viewers when they finally see it.
"I really enjoy that, idea of the ship, of Lucy, and sort of seeing where that can go and then working with her," says Ashmore. "And it looks amazing, too, the spaceship, like when you get to sit in the chair, and I get to fly it most of the time, too. So, the first time I did that was pretty incredible. I felt like a space captain, which is pretty sweet."
Killjoys premieres on Syfy on June 19 at 9 EST, 8 CST.
