Motorola and Google have started rolling out Android 5.1 Lollipop to the Google Play Edition of the Moto G smartphone.
The operating system update is identified with build number LMY47M, with a total size of 171MB. Before users initiate the installation of the update, it is recommended that they first check to see if their smartphone has the available memory space and delete some items off of their smartphone's memory first if free space is less than 171MB. Users are also recommended to have their batteries charged up to at least half to make sure that the smartphone does not shut down while updating.
The update is being rolled out over the air, which means that Moto G Google Play Edition users can simply wait for the update to arrive on their device to install it.
The device is not the first one to receive an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop, but it is still a significant upgrade that users should look forward to. There is currently no news on whether other Google Play Edition devices will be receiving an Android 5.1 Lollipop update yet, so users of such an edition of the Moto G should be pretty pleased with themselves.
The update, however, is being released in stages, with Android 5.1 Lollipop reaching more Moto G Google Play Edition devices gradually. The update could take a few days or a week to be rolled out to devices.
For users that are looking to install the update now as opposed to having to wait for it to be pushed out to their device, the update can be manually downloaded and installed by using a download package specifically for the device. Users can flash the update manually, but should know and follow all the steps to avoid any problems with updating their Moto G Google Play Edition smartphones. It is not overly difficult, but it is definitely not as easy as simply waiting for the update to be rolled out and installed on the device.
Android 5.1 Lollipop features mostly improvements and bug fixes to the previous version of Google's latest mobile operating system, which has received criticism for a multitude of problems. However, the update also includes a handful of new features such as the inclusion of HD Voice for devices that can utilize the function, the Device Protection system that works similarly to Apple's Find My iPhone and support for dual SIM devices.
