Evidence has emerged indicating that the $800 Galaxy S6 Edge will not yield to the pressures of being slammed faced down on concrete, several times.
In what likely constitutes a case of phone abuse, an individual in possession of a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is seen in a video heaving the handset at the floor. The first slam may garner a smirk, but then things get real after that.
Despite what appears to be the individual's best efforts, the S6 Edge survived the ordeal unbent and unbroken. While the video is low in quality, the S6 Edge's Corning Gorilla Glass 4 face and back would conceivably survive the battering without so much as a scratch.
After Apple's Bendgate incident, the tech world got an insider's glimpse at the rigorous tests to which smartphones are subjected. Samsung, Apple's biggest competitor in the smartphone market, likely runs its handsets to physical examinations that are just as brutal.
While the S6 Edge - and presumably the S6 basic - may shrug out being hurled at hard surfaces, its resistance to liquids may be another matter. Taking a step back from the S5, the S6 isn't waterproof.
Along with leaving its watershield back in the labs, the S6 also dropped a feature that has helped many consumers go Android over iOS. The S6 forgoes a memory card slot, although its internal storage capacities range from 32GB up to 128GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were officially revealed in March and are expected to release in April 2015. Both versions of the phone will feature a 5.1-inch screen that has a resolution of 1440 x 2560, with a pixel density of 577 pixels per inch.
The handsets will be driven by the combined efforts of a quad-core, 1.5 GHz Cortex A53 processors and a quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex A57. They will wear a 16MP camera on their backs and a 5MP chat camera on their faces.
"With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung is offering what's next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda," said Samsung Mobile CEO JK Shin.
"By listening to our customers, and learning from both our success and missteps, we continuously push forward new technologies and ideas. With a reimagined design, robust partner network and novel services, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge offer users the ultimate experience in smartphone options," said Shin.
