A new Kickstarter funding project is aimed at helping people attain their goals. Maybe you struggle to commit, or you need more of a reward than achievement itself.
Enter kSafe. The prototype container – which at the time of writing had 313 backers who pledged $32,877 toward the ultimate funding goal of $50,000 – is a simple product in terms of focus.
Users put something they very much want – think smartphone or TV remote or even a few of mom's cookies – into kSafe, lock it up and select one of three potential goals using a smartphone app.
The "goals'" are based in time, location or activity. The kSafe will unlock at an hour or day of the user's choosing, after the user has arrived and checked in at a particular location, or burned a certain number of calories. The app, which works with iOS and Android, helps users track progress and steps toward a goal. The project is currently a Kickstarter staff favorite.
"It doesn't matter if you're a world class athlete, or you've never been to a gym, everyone can use a little extra motivation and willpower," reads the Kickstarter website. "Use kSafe to cut back on the bad habits you're trying to quit. Setting a time lock is an effective way to control the time between smokes or medication."
The kSafe is a sleekly designed "holder" that fits into a room's décor as a design element. It's almost 10 inches in height, with 1.5 gallons in useable volume, and comes in three colors: black, white and translucent white. The kSafe features a button dial and 360 LED ring that provides updates on the user's progress.
"In order for this technology to positively impact and integrate with our lives, it needs to rest in a place where we'll see it and use it everyday. That's why we designed something that would look beautiful in any room," state the product makers.
The kSafe development team believes that goal achievement is only one of many uses for the container and is assessing expansion into new markets.
"We have a lot of ideas for how to expand kSafe into new markets, but we know you do too. That's why we're developing the product so that it can be easily integrated with other systems. Take it, play with it, do whatever you want with it. It's yours!" reads the product page.
The container is a working prototype being tested in a home environment and the team plans to begin the tooling process to create molds for manufacturing. The goal is to ship initial units by October 2015 at a price point of $129.
No word, though, on what the kSafe team locked up in their kSafe as incentive for making the product goal a reality.
The kSafe campaign ends May 8.
