China-based smartphone manufacturer Huawei has released official invitations for an April 15 event in London, with the company hinting of the possible unveiling of the Huawei Ascend P8.
The Ascend P8 will be the successor to the Ascend P7, which features a Hisilicon Kirin 910T quad-core processor that clocks in at 1.8GHz, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB on-board memory capacity.
The invitation to the event simply states "It's coming..." showing the logo of the company, along with the date and time of the press conference.
A teaser poster, however, that was released by Huawei provides a stronger hint at the Ascend P8, as the poster features the number 8 in digital style with the battery icon as one of the lines of the number.
There have been several rumors surrounding the upcoming device, with prolific smartphone leaker @OnLeaks recently posting a picture of the supposed back of the Ascend P8. The picture reveals the bottom edge of the device, which looks to be a pretty standard one with a micro USB port and a pair of speaker holes on either side.
A few days after posting the image of the back and bottom of the Ascend P8, @OnLeaks posted a document that allegedly came from the factory where the device is manufactured, revealing the dimensions and several significant details about the Ascend P8.
The document shows that the Ascend P8 will have measurements of 144.9mm in length, 71.9mm in width and 6.6mm in thickness, which places the size of the device similar to that of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6, but with the Ascend P8 being a bit longer and wider, but marginally thinner. Compared to its predecessor the Ascend P7, the Ascend P8 is a bit longer and wider, but thicker by 0.1mm.
The slightly bigger size has allowed the Ascend P8 to feature a bigger 5.2-inch screen, compared to the previous 5.0-inch display. There will be one camera sensor at the smartphone's back, believed to be of 13MP quality with dual LED flash. There is also a rectangle below the flash, the purpose of which is still unconfirmed, with rumors stating that it could be a fingerprint scanner.
Other rumors concerning the Ascend P8 include the device having a 64-bit, octo-core Hisilicon Kirin 930 processor that clocks in at 2.0 GHz with 3GB of RAM.
Of course, all these rumors will only be confirmed once Huawei officially unveils the Ascend P8, with the prevailing expectation that the company will do so on April 15.
