Huawei highlighted its presence at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 with the announcement of the MediaPad X2, a 7-inch phablet that comes after the original MediaPad. With a slimmed down built that measures only 7.18 mm in width, the company touts it as the "thinnest" phablet available in the market today.
The MediaPad X2 offers a screen-to-body ratio of 80 percent and claims that it has been designed to deliver an easy one-handed use. The 7-inch HD IPS display offers a resolution of 1200 x 1920 at 323 ppi. It also claims to have a wide viewing angle that could reach as much as 178 degrees.
Out of the box, the new phablet from Huawei will be running Android Lollipop and will have significant options such as dual SIM and LTE connectivity. It comes with a Mali-T628 graphics chip and a 2.0GHz Kirin 930 chipset with an octa-core CPU of 64 bits.
The MediaPad X2 comes in versions of silver and gold. The former will be equipped with a RAM of 2GB and internal storage of up to 16GB. The premium gold model has a more beefy RAM of 3GB and bigger internal storage of 32GB. It promises to allow a continuous usage of up to two days brought by the phablet's 5,000mAH battery after a single charge. Moreover, the phablet is designed with a 2.4G dual Wi-Fi antenna that is capable of allowing a solid range of connectivity options.
With a stronger performing battery, the phablet claims that it can allow 12 hours of online video streaming, music playback of 60 hours while inserted with headphones, and 15 hours of Web browsing. Such feature will also come in handy when there's a need to take a number of images under varying conditions.
The MediaPad X2 boasts of a 13MP rear camera that allows taking images even when there's not enough light with its improved low-light capability. The 5MP front camera is also not to be ignored as it features an F2.4 aperture.
"Following the success of the Huawei MediaPad X1, and having inherited the signature feature of our large screen design, the Huawei MediaPad X2 represents our faith and commitment in creating better quality products with our technology and innovation," said CEO Richard Yu of Huawei Consumer Business Group.
Details on pricing and availability are yet to be announced.
