New Poster Touts Reverse Flash's Return To 'The Flash'

Things are about to heat up on The CW's The Flash. When the show returns on March 17, a certain someone is coming back with it.

Spoilers ahead.

Yes, we're talking about the Reverse Flash, Barry Allen's archnemesis and the show's main antagonist. Though he began the season as Barry's mentor, Dr. Harrison Wells of S.T.A.R. Labs, he's since secretly revealed himself to be a time traveler who jumped back several years after battling an older Barry Allen/Flash in the future. Is he the same yellow-clad speedster that murdered Barry's mother when he was a small boy? Probably, but the jury's still out.

The CW has just released a new poster showing off the Reverse Flash in his full costume, and it's easy to tell that that is indeed actor Tom Cavanaugh (who co-stars as Dr. Wells) under the cowl.

It's a striking image, proving the exact opposite of Flash's costume in every way. The yellow and red parts of Barry's uniform are flipped for Wells', and just as Flash gives off yellow lightning when he moves, Reverse Flash generates red lightning.

It's only a matter of time before Barry (actor Grant Gustin) and his friends figure out the truth about Dr. Wells. In the meantime, fans are left to ponder his angle. If he's from the future and wants to defeat Flash, why would he spend all these months helping Barry, training him to hone his abilities, so that in effect he becomes a better Flash? Comic book fans may have a good idea of what's really going on, but we're not going to spoil it for you here.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8:PM Eastern.
