Happy Friday the 13th: Jason Voorhees Will Be In 'Mortal Kombat X'

In honor of Friday the 13th, NetherRealm Studios has made a very special announcement about Mortal Kombat X: The one and only Jason Voorhees will be one of the playable characters included in a special DLC add-on called the Kombat Pack. We called this two weeks ago, by the way.

The character was born in 1980 in the original Friday the 13th, which depicts his origins as a child who apparently drowned to death. His death sends his mother on a killing spree at Camp Crystal Lake. Jason himself doesn't become the series' true antagonist until Part 2, where he's revealed to have survived his drowning. Over the course of eight additional films, Jason eventually developed superhuman abilities, such as super strength and a Wolverine-like regenerative ability.

In Mortal Kombat X, nothing is yet known about Jason's role aside from his appearance, which matches his classic depiction from the movies. He can be seen in this trailer.

The Kombat Pack can be purchased separately from the main game for $29.99. It's also included in Mortal Kombat X's Kollector's Edition, Limited Edition and Premium Edition. NetherRealm is really going all-out for MKX's roster, slowly revealing all of its playable characters one by one via its "Who's Next?" marketing campaign. To date, 24 playable characters have been announced, including Jason.

So far, Jason is the first pop culture character from outside of the franchise to be announced for the game. Stay tuned for more announcements leading up to the game's release on April 14, 2015.
