At first, it seemed as if Cassie Cage would be the only family representative in Mortal Kombat X. She's been described as a mix of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, and it felt like NetherRealm was using Cassie as a way to evolve both characters.
They're two of the most recognizable fighters in Mortal Kombat, but for a long time, it looked like they simply wouldn't be in the game.
Clearly, fans were just being anxious, as both Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade will be playable in Mortal Kombat X. Not only that, but it looks like the entire Cage family will be playing a big part in the game's story...
First things first: that Fatality at the end is perfect.
Secondly, it's clear that Johnny Cage hasn't changed much at all. Sure, he's still a dork with his own name tattooed across his chest, but from a gameplay perspective, he looks relatively similar to his Mortal Kombat 9 incarnation. To put it bluntly, there are a lot of green fireballs and kicks to the face...however, there's a surprising lack of punches below the belt - hopefully, that won't be the case in the final game.
Sonya Blade, on the other hand, looks markedly different from any other version of the character. In the trailer, it appears that she's using garrote wire for multiple different moves, putting more of an emphasis on grappling than previous incarnations. Everything is still up-close and personal, which is on-point for the character, and it's likely that NetherRealm is only showing off a single fighting style (and the same is probably true for Johnny as well).
Despite being a video on the Cage Family, there are plenty of cameos tucked away in the trailer, too. It's hard to tell if any of them are playable, as all of the gameplay features previously-confirmed fighters, but characters like Baraka, Kenshi and Shinnok all make appearances:
That big bald head, the two artificial arms - while it's certainly a more demonic-looking version of the character, that definitely looks like everyone's favorite cyborg. It's a gameplay shot, too: whichever version of Jax this is, he's going to be playable.
Thankfully, there's only a little bit longer before fans will finally know who's in the final roster: Mortal Kombat X is set for release on April 14.
