Updated Apple TV on the way as Apple is offering $25 iTunes card with Apple TV purchase?

Rumors of a next-generation Apple TV are heating up as the company is offering a $25 iTunes card with the purchase of an Apple TV for a limited time.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that his company sold more than $1 billion in sales of its Apple TV set-top boxes in 2013 and it has officially lost its "hobby" status, which Steve Jobs famously described the device as being for the company. During Apple's annual shareholder's meeting on Friday, Tim Cook let Apple shareholders and the world know that Apple has its sights on the living room.

"The $99 Apple TV set-top box, which streams content from Netflix and other video sources to a TV, had racked up $1 billion in sales in the past year, it's a little more difficult to call it a hobby these days", Cook said.

There have been multiple reports that Apple is getting ready to introduce an updated Apple TV. Apple hasn't provided a major update to Apple TV since March 2012 and the timing of a new deal from the company could indicate a refreshed Apple TV is on the horizon.

Between now and March 5 if you purchase an Apple TV from an Apple retail store or through its online store, you will receive a $25 iTunes gift card with purchase. Apple TV is priced at $99 and includes free shipping when purchased through Apple's online store.

Apple TV gives you access to many popular online streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO GO, ESPN, and more. In the last few months Apple has been steadily adding new content and features to the device. You can even play content from an iOS device or Mac on your TV using AirPlay. Another cool feature is AirPlay mirroring, which allows you to display whatever is on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch's display on your television. You can also enjoy free streaming radio using iTunes Radio, which has over 250-genre focused stations or create your own custom station.

There have been some rumors claiming Apple will launch a new Apple TV in March or April, that will add an iOS 7-like user interface, include support for video games, more content deals, and for the first time, will include the App Store.

If you've been thinking about taking the plunge on an Apple TV and want a free $25 iTunes gift card to get you started, you have from now through March 5.
