There are few things better in life than playing Cards Against Humanity. However, there are also few things worse in life than wanting to liven up a party or pass the time during a road trip by playing Cards Against Humanity and not having your trusty deck of cards with you. It's the worst.
But we've finally done it. Some genius has now put Cards Against Humanity online to play for free. You feel that? This is what progress feels like.
The website called Cards Against Originality is the brainchild of designer and developer Dawson Whitfield, who told PCMag that the site is "a shameless copy of the real Cards Against Humanity."
Yeah, I'd have to say that's pretty accurate. The browser-based app features all of the Cards Against Humanity cards you know and love plus all five expansion decks.
But before you can smell a lawsuit coming on, things will probably not get that serious. Cards Against Humanity is available under a Creative Commons license, which "means you can use, remix, and share the game for free, but you can't sell it without our permission," according to the game's website. The only caveat here is you can't use the name "Cards Against Humanity," so Whitfield is probably in the clear here. Cards Against Humanity is so lax about this that you can even download all of the cards from the game's website and print them out to instantly get your very own set for free, minus the cost of printer ink, paper and your precious time.
To play Cards Against Originality, you just go to the website and click to begin a new game. You'll receive a unique link to send to everyone you're playing with, and let the inappropriate phrase pairings begin!
Cards Against Originality actually isn't the first time Cards Against Humanity has been available to play online or on mobile devices. As PCMag pointed out, Pretend You're Xyzzy launched last summer online, and it allowed people to watch others play Cards Against Humanity or join in the debauchery themselves. There's also tons of free mobile games available for iOS and Android devices that mimic the card game, including Evil Apples, Black Cards and Answers Against Humanity. With so many ways to experience this twisted fun, which one are you going to choose?
