Nintendo fans stormed Walmart's website to preorder the Walmart exclusive "Golden Mario" variant Amiibo. The figure quickly sold out, leaving many fans anxiously awaiting the figure's March 20 release date alongside Mario Party 10. Maybe, just maybe, Walmart will have some extras to sell in store on release day.
Amiibo collectors will have to wait a little longer in order to find out. Reports are surfacing that the golden Mario Amiibo has been delayed. Customers who ordered the Amiibo online have been notified by Walmart that the figure's release date has been pushed back from March 20 to April 8.
A reason for the delay wasn't given, and it's still unclear whether or not this means the figure is delayed for all customers who ordered online or only a subset of them. So far, this delay only pertains to the golden Mario -- the rest of the Super Mario Bros. Amiibo line is still on track for a March 20 release date.
Golden and silver Mario variants were first discovered on Nintendo's website last month. While we since learned more about the golden Amiibo, the silver version is still a mystery. Most likely, it will be another retailer exclusive, though what retailer isn't known.
Nintendo's Amiibo toy line has proved to be successful for the video game company, reporting more than 5.7 million Amiibo sold. That number will only continue to climb as Nintendo announces new Amiibo lines and begins to once again sell previously sold-out figures.
