Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is a man of many talents and one of the biggest action movie stars today. He's set to play Black Adam in DC's Shazam movie, but from what we are hearing, he was almost destined for another role in the DC Cinematic Multiverse.
We love the fact that Johnson is Black Adam, but how we would have felt if he were cast as Green Lantern (John Stewart) instead. According to the latest round of rumors, Warner Bros. was initially seeking The Rock for the role of Green Lantern, but the former wrestler turned actor turned down the role.
The information was first reported by "El Mayimbe" from the website Latino Review. It's hard to tell if this rumor holds any truth to it, but we have to bear in mind that there was a time The Rock was hinting for months that he could become the next Green Lantern.
If this rumor is indeed true, it would mean Warner Bros. is not planning to reboot Green Lantern with Hal Jordan as the main man, but rather with John Stewart. This would be an interesting movie, and it could prove Warner wants to distance itself from the Ryan Reynolds' failed Green Lantern movie.
The Rock as Green Lantern or The Rock as Black Adam?
We love John Stewart as Green Lantern. In fact, he's one of the best, and many fans have him as their favorite over Hal Jordan. However, Stewart doesn't have much of a personality, which means The Rock's charismatic acting may never come into play. By going the route of Black Adam, he has chosen a character with a richer backstory, and one with more room for complex performances.
Arguably, Black Adam is a far more interesting character than John Stewart is.
Thousands of years ago, the council of wizards chose Black Adam as their champion. However, the power he was given further skewed his already messed up mind, and thus he went on a rampage to kill the wizards. After a brutal battle, he was thrown into a prison made of magic, only to escape in modern times.
His aim is to destroy the newly chosen champion, Billy Batson, who goes by the name, Shazam or Captain Marvel. Destroying Shazam would make it easier for Black Adam to assert his dominance over the humanity.
