Mortal Kombat is known for fatalities, but what about brutalities? These extra violent finishing moves made an appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, where performing a difficult button combo at the end of the match would cause your opponent to explode into a mix of blood and bone. Brutalities haven't been seen in Mortal Kombat since.
It looks like the upcoming Mortal Kombat X will be changing that. NetherRealm Studios revealed the return of Brutalities yesterday during a livestream of the game, and unlike the brutalities of old, which were the same for each character, Mortal Kombat X will feature more than 100 unique brutalities. Ouch.
They work in a similar way to their older counterparts. Players must perform a specific combo, and if the opponent dies during it, they will meet an even more gruesome fate than usual. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3's brutalities were notoriously difficult to pull off. NetherRealm says this time around the brutalities will be more accessible. Because each brutalitiy is different, some will have easier requirements than others, meaning players of all skill levels will have the opportunity to completely humiliate their enemies in true Mortal Kombat fashion.
But enough talk! Where is the blood and guts? Look no further. Here is classic Mortal Kombat villain Kano slicing up Quan Chi.
Up next is newcomer Kotal Khan, who proceeds to saw Kano in half.
Scorpion shows Sub-Zero how much he cares in the gif below.
Last but certainly not least we have Cassie Cage, who seems to have adopted her dad's go-to move.
There are a few more sprinkled throughout the trailer, with dozens upon dozens more to find in the full-game. Mortal Kombat X releases on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 April 14.
