Swapping gear between characters in Destiny just got a whole lot easier.
Bungie has updated the Destiny companion app with a new feature called Mobile Vault management. Whereas before swapping gear between characters meant logging in under one character, putting gear in the vault and then logging into your other character to pick up the items, now it can all be done with just a few clicks through the app. Even if you are in the middle of playing Destiny, using a web browser or the app on your phone is a much faster process for transferring your items than doing it in-game.
Bungie engineering lead Chris Gossett gives a few examples of just how useful Mobile Vault management can be in this week's Bungie Weekly Update.
Here are a few scenarios in which we think you'll find this handy:
- You and your buddies are finally all online at the same time about to tackle the Nightfall. That one player in your Fireteam realizes there's a Thermal Burn this week, and wants to retrieve their Ice Breaker from another character. No more waiting... tell him to grab a nearby browser.
- You're on the bus and want to manage gear between a couple characters. Use the app to move stuff around and jump right into the action as soon as you get home.
- Oops, you're halfway through the Daily Story Mission and realize you need that Fusion Rifle with Void. No worries, it's just a couple clicks away.
The idea came as a result from voices in the community, with Gossett saying a better gear transfer process has been one of the game's most requested features. Gossett also gave a brief tutorial for how to use the new feature.
"Hit Move to Vault to transfer an item to your vault," Gossett says in the update. "Conversely, when viewing an item in your Vault there's a button that says Take from Vault. Doing so will move the item to the character currently in focus on the app. If you're transferring an item that has a quantity (like materials) you'll get a prompt that asks 'How many?' If you just need a couple, there's no need to take the whole stack. Just get what you need."
It's as easy as that. You can see some of what Gossett is talking about in the gifs above, but what are you waiting for? Try it out yourself.
Bungie also announced a new PVP mode coming to Destiny on March 3 as part of the Weekly Update. Called Inferno, the new mode is a more hardcore PVP experience that removes motion trackers, features less heavy ammo and adds simplified scoring system. Because players are much more vulnerable due to the lack of motion tracker, capturing objectives like control points will happen much quicker now.
With update 1.1.1 having rolled out earlier this week, a new House of Wolves DLC leak and the update to the companion app now live, it has been a big week for Destiny fans.
