When the people at "Honest Trailers" sink their teeth into something, no sacred cow is... well, sacred.
When they took on Destiny, you thought, "Total no-brainer." When they did an honest trailer for Gears of War, you were like, "Oh yeah, that one had it coming." They even found some funnies to pick apart in the amazing experience that was The Last of Us. But when you hear that their latest and greatest is for a classic as amazing and perfect as Batman: Arkham Asylum, it's a little hard to swallow.
That's because Batman: Arkham Asylum was a landmark game. No other superhero game succeeded in creating something so monumentally awesome. It was gorgeous, it was smart, it had tons of great gameplay mechanics, and most importantly, it was just crazy fun to play — in a way that changed third-person action games forever. Most gamers look back on Arkham Asylum as a brilliant, flawless experience.
But still, there are some things you may have forgotten about that stretch believability. Remember the second Batcave, conveniently located under Arkham? Yeeeeeah. And you have to love Arkham Island for all those "conveniently-placed interior gargoyles." A few other gems are listed after the video.
"Detective Mode: a spooky, skeleton Instagram filter..."
"Scarecrow's really bad Salvia trip..."
And who can forget the game's "fun-filled piggyback rides"? But at least the trailer offers almost as many compliments as it does criticisms — and that's a lot more than you can say about most of "Honest Trailers"' work.
Still, not all of the digs are aimed at Batman. One of the best is when the trailer lists the prequels Arkham Asylum inspired, and one of them is Shadow of Mordor.
So okay, yes, the developers at Rocksteady sacrificed some realism in the name of awesomeness. But you'd rather have fun over realistic, wouldn't you?
