Batman: Arkham Knight will mark the end of Rocksteady's trilogy of Batman games. It also happens to be one of the most anticipated games of the year, so, ya know, people are pumped.
How would you feel then if the game's ending was accidentally spoiled for you before you even started playing? That seems to be the case with those shopping for the game's limited edition on Amazon, where a product image may have dropped a major spoiler.
Possible Spoilers Ahead!
Videogamer spotted the picture of the limited edition game bundle, which comes complete with a Batman statue, on Amazon UK. The statue depicts Batman standing over Gotham City, with a plaque on the statue's base reading "From a Grateful City In Memory of the Gotham Knight." The image has since been replaced with a spoiler-free version of the statue that simply reads "The Gotham Knight" and can be seen below. Even without the actual image, the product description still reads "...an imposing Batman memorial statue commemorating Gotham's protector, the Dark Knight."
The statue, it appears, is a memorial to honor the memory of Batman and implies the Dark Knight may be heading towards that great Bat Cave in the sky. Does that mean 100 percent that Batman/Bruce Wayne dies at the end of Arkham Knight? Not necessarily. The game's ending could be in the same vein of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, where Bruce Wayne retires from the role of Batman after his apparent death in order to live the rest of his life as a normal person. Members of Rocksteady have said before that Arkham Knight will be their final Batman title, so it would make sense for them to close the lid on any future Arkham games by having Bruce abandon the cape and cowl.
That doesn't explain who thought it was a good idea to spoil what may be the game's climax by putting such a critical piece of information on the statue for the limited edition. Oh well. At least it looks cool.
