It's been a great couple of weeks for fans of the Batman: Arkham games. After months of silence from developer Rocksteady Studios, players were promised not one, but three new trailers, all of which focused on something fans had yet to see. The first part was an amazing debut, but the second piece of the trailer, unfortuatnely, felt more like a rehash of the game's E3 debut a year ago. Now, the third part of the trailer is here, and if you were worried that the mini-series would end on anything but a high note, rest easy.
Without further adieu, here is the final part of the Batman: Arkham Knight "Ace Chemicals Infiltration" trailer:
At first, it seems that the final part of the trailer is going to be more of the same: the Fear Takedown is on display yet again, as is Batmobile combat. However, they're much more condensed, almost as if the developers knew that fans wanted to see something new...
For the first time since E3, Scarecrow takes center stage. Rocksteady confirmed that Scarecrow's scheme to bomb the entirety of Gotham City with fear toxin is central to the game's plot, but aside from a few brief moments, the villain has barely been seen. Here, Scarecrow is presented in all of his villainous glory (as long as you stay until the credits finish rolling).
Of course, the back half of the trailer only seems to matter to PlayStation owners. Seeing as how the trailer series concluded at Sony's PSX event this past weekend, PlayStation fans were bound to get something extra, and indeed they did. The "Scarecrow Nightmare" mission, whatever it entails, will be exclusive to those with Sony's console - considering it seems to be a throwback to the amazing hallucination sequences from Batman: Arkham Asylum, the exclusive mission is actually a big selling point.
All in all, the "Ace Chemicals Infiltration" preview was fantastic. Yes, Batmobile combat looks like it could get a little stale, but this is Rocksteady we're talking about: the studio knows what it's doing, and even if vehicular combat is the game's weak link, the rest of what they've shown so far has been absolutely phenomenal.
The first two parts of the trailer are available here, and Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release on June 2, 2015.
