Nineteen-year old Miranda Barbour, who admitted to killing 42 year-old Troy LaFerrara, a man she met on Craigslist, has confessed to have killed 22 more people in Alaska, Texas, North Carolina, and California, within the past six years.
Barbour got married to 22 year-old Elyette Barbour in North Carolina, and the couple moved to Pennsylvania shortly after the wedding.
Miranda, who sometimes offered her services as a 'companion' for as much as $850, lured LaFerrara by advertising her services on Craigslist, met him in a mall in Hummels Wharf on Nov. 11, and drove with him in her vehicle after she agreed to have sex with him for $100. However, an argument ensued, and Elyette, who was hiding under a blanket in the back seat, leapt up and strangled LaFerrera with a cord while Miranda stabbed LaFerrera about twenty times.
Then the couple dumped the body in an alley in Sunbury, cleaned up the car, and went to dinner. They later admitted to the police that they murdered LaFerrara because they wanted to murder someone together. The Barbours have been married only three weeks when the murder happened. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for both of the Barbours for the killing of LaFerrara. Miranda is currently being held at the Northumberland County Prison.
Apparently, that's not all that Miranda has done. In an interview she had requested with the Daily Item, she also claimed that she was sexually molested when she was 4 years old, and when she was 13 years old she joined a satanic cult in Alaska, before she moved to North Carolina. She claimed she has been killing people since she was 13.
She said she only kills 'bad people' so she does not feel any remorse for them, and that she would kill again once she gets out of jail. She also said that she 'stopped counting' at 22 victims, and that she can pinpoint on a map where the victims' bodies can be found.
However, Miranda clarified that LaFerrara was Elyette's first victim.
"I feel it is time to get all of this out. I don't care if people believe me. I just want to get it out," said Miranda. "By no means is this a way to glorify it or get attention. I'm telling you because it is time for me to be honest."
The Philadelphia division of the FBI and the Sunbury police division have been working together on the case, and Sunbury investigators have contacted police in other jurisdictions to verify Miranda's claim of other older murders. Police believe that Miranda has had encounters with at least 30 different men through Craigslist, and they are all part of the ongoing investigation. Miranda also has a 1 year-old child whose father is already deceased. He is also a part of the investigation. Elyette has confessed that before LaFerrara, they have tried to kill others, but they were not successful.
In the meantime, lawyers for both of the Barbours have pleaded that their clients be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
