Newlywed couple used Craigslist to lure man and kill him: Police

A newlywed couple, Elyette Barbour, 22, and his wife Miranda Barbour 18, lured a man on the popular classified ads website Craigslist and then killed him just for thrill, according to police in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

The couple married around a few weeks back and shared a dream of killing someone together. Elyette told police that Miranda often hired herself out as a "companion" and charged up to $850 to accompany males for "delightful conversation." Miranda used Craigslist to advertise the services she offered and lured Troy LaFerrara, 42, who the couple killed in November 2013. LaFerrara's body was found on November 12 in an alley in Sunbury.

Police arrested Miranda on December 3 and Elyette on December 13. Investigations reveal that the couple had moved from North Carolina to Pennsylvania recently.

Miranda told police that she had arranged to meet Laferrara using Craigslist and met him only once. Police say that Miranda had arranged to meet LaFerrara at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf on November 11 and then they went together in her red Honda CRV.

She said that LaFerrara put his hands around her neck and also groped her, which made Miranda stab him. Initially, Elyette was not arrested but police got suspicious after they found a video in which he was seen buying cleaning products on the night of the murder.

After his arrest on Friday, December 6, Elyette admitted that he was hiding in the back seat of the car under a blanket and when Miranda signaled him, he wrapped a cord around LaFerrara's neck while Miranda continued to stab the victim. Police say that LaFerrarra's body had 20 stab wounds.

The police also said that after the couple dumped the victim's body, they cleaned the car and went out for dinner together.

According to the police, the newlywed couple murdered LaFerrarra only because they wanted to murder someone together. The police also indicate that in the past the couple also tried to lure others with the intention of murdering them but were unsuccessful.

Both Elyette and Miranda Barbour are now facing criminal homicide charges in LaFerrara's death.
