Aquaman is the DC superhero who talks to fish and is caught in six-pack rings on a regular basis. Director Zack Snyder recently released the first image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and the Internet went wild, but the excitement wasn't without those calling the character useless.
Several folks on social media and website comment sections went out of their way to bash Aquaman as a hero who has no interesting superpowers and, as expected, he speaks to fish. DC is also not doing a good job stopping this since the character was seen in the recent animated movie Justice League: Throne of Atlantis talking to a lobster.
Obviously, for those who watched the film, the lobster was not talking back because, well, it couldn't. Aquaman himself has said fish do not have the brainpower to hold conversations, but that apparently is not enough to deter some.
So, why is Aquaman awesome?
First of all, Aquaman is just as awesome as the other Justice League members, even more awesome than some. Since he's from Atlantis, his skin is capable of withstanding the pressures of the deep sea, which means he can take a bullet. It doesn't mean he can face a barrage of bullets like Superman, but he is capable of holding his own.
Furthermore, he can talk to fish ... that's a joke. Actually, he can communicate with marine life but not on a conversational level. Aquaman taps into the brain of sea life and commands them to do his bidding, so it is not as if Aquaman and a shark can be buddies and have a boys night out.
We've seen before how Aquaman summons a bunch of sharks to eat invading aliens. It was awesome, and we can only hope he does something similar in the movies.
In video games, the King of Atlantis can also summon a shark to destroy his opponents. Moreover, it is not just sharks. He can communicate with any creature of the sea -- now, that means mythical creatures from Atlantis, which are more dangerous than sharks.
When it comes down to strength, this King is quite strong. He also has a superb sense of hearing, an excellent sense of smell from across long distances, and a remarkable sense of sight. Should he choose to make a deal with the ancient sea gods, Aquaman would possess great magic to use against his enemies.
Being a King allows Aquaman to command the great army of Atlantis; now, how many DC heroes have that luxury? Not many.
Conclusion:
We're happy Zack Snyder is taking the character seriously, but we can only hope the director doesn't overdo it. Fans should expect to see the one true King for the first time on the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on Mar. 25, 2016.
