After several delays, Verizon subscribers that own LG G3 smartphones seem to be finally receiving the update to upgrade the device's operating system to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.
The long wait for the arrival of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop was caused by several issues that Google had been trying to address over the previous months, in addition to carriers taking their time in testing out new builds for the operating system. Also, Android-based smartphone manufacturers are dealing with both these issues of waiting for Google to fix several problems and having to spend a considerable amount of time in testing out the updated operating system.
Reports, however, reveal that at least two Verizon subscribers with LG G3 smartphones have received the anticipated update within this month.
The update, named as software version VS98523A, Android build LRX21Y, and Android version 5.0.1, was first seen in the community forums of Verizon a couple of weeks ago on Feb. 12. A Verizon subscriber was asking for help to fix a bug on the LG G3's SMS functions, which was having problems while the smartphone was operating on Android Lollipop. A customer support agent for Verizon answered three days after, stating that the situation was not possible because Lollipop has not yet been rolled out to the Verizon LG G3 smartphone. The subscriber responded by posting the software details of the affected G3 that featured the software details found above, but the agent has not replied since.
Over the past weekend, a Verizon subscriber that was sent a replacement LG G3 smartphone reported that upon turning on the device, an update began to download right away. The update took up 717MB of memory and indeed updated the smartphone to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.
The user has posted several screenshots of the Verizon LG G3 running the latest Android operating system, including images of the smartphone's About screen and navigation button options.
The user is also reportedly working with members of the XDA forum, which is an online resource for Android developers, to be able to extract all that they could from the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop LG G3 smartphone.
While it is difficult to determine exactly how many Verizon LG G3 owners have received the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update, the handful of reports of the updated LG G3 could mean that the update is currently in a testing phase that could lead to its widespread release very soon.
