What's The Mystery Device Motorola Will Announce On Feb. 25?

Motorola seems ready to unleash a surprise on Wednesday of the coming week as it sends out a number of emails to members of the tech press. The company said that it will be shipping a box, hinting that everything that one could need would fit inside it.

While details on the content are scarce, it did mention the exact day of the box's delivery.

"Motorola is making an exciting announcement next week and wants you to be in the front row. The best part? You get to choose where and when you'd like to experience it. Everything you need fits inside one box, which we will deliver to your doorstep on Wednesday," Motorola's invitation read.

The invitation has caused quite a stir, with a number of speculations being made regarding what Motorola could be dishing out in the next couple of days.

Some have speculated that a follow-up to the Moto 360 smartwatch is the surprise inside the box. There is also speculation that Motorola would be releasing an updated version of its flagship Moto X device.

Just recently, the company announced that it had plans to make an official return to China with Lenovo as its new parent company. When that happens, the move will be marked by the launch of a number of Motorola products, such as the Moto G, Moto X and Moto X Pro, in its new home country. According to Motorola, these products may be hitting store shelves after the Chinese New Year celebration.

"One thing a lot of people have forgotten is that Motorola used to have a 40 percent share of China's smartphone market," said Bryan Ma of research firm IDC. "So there may be a residual brand value there they might be able to capitalize on."

China is one of the largest and fastest growing smartphone markets in the world, something that Apple also knew from the very beginning. Just like Apple, Lenovo-owned Motorola is looking into gaining a strong position in the Chinese mobile device market.

Motorola currently makes a slew of products that include smartphones, tablets, wearables, batteries and chargers, among others. Each product can fit inside a small package. It remains to be seen if one of these products will be presented on Feb. 25 -- or perhaps something that is entirely new and has never been launched before would be unveiled on the world stage.
