After the metallic bands popped on and off an Amazon listing, Motorola has confirmed that it's offering a wider selection of accessories for its Moto 360 smart watch.
As the likes of Motorola and LG play their parts in defining the market for smart watches, the burgeoning sector is having to overcome repudiation from a lot of individuals who care at least a little bit about fashion.
While smart watch wearers can don whatever digital watch face they'd like, the styles of the physical faces and bands have clashed with the clothing and accessory choices of many consumers. Women are the most obvious demographic that finds itself alienated by the bulky wristband and proportionally-sized watch faces, but Motorola is doing something to change that.
Motorola now flanks its Moto 360 with metallic watchbands that come in widths of 23 mm, 22 mm and 18 mm. The colors are softer as well, adding a pink and champagne gold to a collection that initially offered black and ash gray.
The slimmer, metallic bands aren't available just yet. But they will be packaged along side the smart watches and available as accessories for those who have already purchased 360s.
Motorola says the slimmer watchbands will be available in time for the holidays. The Moto 360 that will be available with the light metal band will cost $300, while the one with the champagne finish is priced at $330.
While the Moto 360's new watchbands aren't even tailgating in the ballpark of Apple's golden smart watches, Motorola says the accessories are made of premium steel.
"Crafted from aircraft-grade stainless steel, these bands feature a modern, contemporary trilink design that complements the round face of Moto 360," states Motorola in a blog post announcing the new bands.
Along with finally confirming the existence of the new metallic bands for the 360, Motorola also used the blog space to announce it has made more watch faces available and has enhanced its wellness app.
After updating the 360 through the Moto Connect app, wearers can select from the new gallery of digital watch faces for their smart watches. Users can also tweak existing watch faces or create their own.
Motorola is welcoming Moto Body into the Moto Connect app. Moto Body will track common fitness metrics such as steps taken and distance traveled, while working out new goals for wearers to pursue.
Like the new selection of 360 watch faces, Moto Body will come through the digital pipeline in Moto Connect's latest update.
