Screenshot Feature Coming To Xbox One This March

The Xbox One's March Update, which includes the long-awaited Screenshot feature, is now available for download, according to Microsoft. The update, announced in a blog post by Major Nelson, will be exclusively available to Preview Program subscribers.

Microsoft has revealed the full changelog from the update. According to the company, the Xbox One March 2015 firmware will have a ton of exciting new features. These include Tile Transparency Customization, Suggested Friends and the Screenshot functionality.

"While playing a game, you can now take screenshots on your Xbox One console by simply double-tapping the Xbox button on your controller to capture a screenshot and pressing Y to save the screenshot. If your Xbox One is equipped with a Kinect, you can also say, 'Xbox, take a screenshot,' to take and save a screenshot," said Major Nelson.

As soon as a screenshot is taken, the user can start browsing all of the images using the Upload app. There are a lot of things that the user can do with the uploaded images. These include sharing them via Twitter, sending them as a message in Xbox Live, liking them or commenting on them using the Activity Feed, and setting them as one's featured background.

"Some games go into their menu when you double-tap the Xbox button; it guarantees that you're taking a screenshot of the scene that you wanted to take a screenshot of," said Richard Irving, Group Program Manager of Microsoft Corporation, Xbox One.

Apart from the new screenshot functionality, another treat to watch out for is the suggested friends feature. This will include people that the user might be familiar with. The feature allows the user to add more friends to play games with. It also includes top clip makers and community broadcasters, which can help in adding more exciting content in the user's activity feed.

The tile transparency customization lets users adjust the level of transparency of their background images. Users simply have to go first to Settings > My Xbox > Tile Transparency.

Other features of the update include Upload App, Sharing Your Name, Privacy and Online Safety Settings, Report Spam, Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in Australia and OneGuide for Australia.

While it is true that the update is still in preview, Microsoft said that it will be officially released around March. Users are encouraged to share their ideas, suggestions and feedback at the Xbox feedback site.
