HTC One M8 owners in the U.S. have been waiting to receive an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Now, the company has provided news on when it expects the Verizon variant to get a taste of Lollipop.
Google's latest iteration of Android follows the same dessert-themed naming convention as its predecessors and Lollipop certainly delivers some sweet new features. The most notable change to Google's mobile OS comes in the form of a redesigned user interface called Material Design, which takes cues Google Now's card user interface. The update brings a refreshed and enhanced notification system that allows users to more easily access, group, respond to, and dismiss notifications. Android 5.0 Lollipop also has several under-the-hood optimizations to address battery life, which Google has coined "Project Volta."
Several smartphone manufacturers have already begun releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop software upgrades for current devices. LG just released its Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its current flagship LG G3, while Samsung has pushed out Lollipop to devices like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 3. HTC has started to release its Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its One M8 in several regions but has delayed the rollout to some of its U.S. carrier variants. We now have an update from HTC on when Verizon One M8 owners can expect the software update.
Mo Versi, HTC's VP of product management, revealed on Twitter that the Verizon HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is currently "in the lab" and its approval is expected in the first week of March. It's unclear if Verizon will actually release the update at this time or whether the carrier will have to take additional time to test the software once it comes out of HTC's lab.
As always, once we hear any new information regarding the Verizon HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop software update, we'll pass the news on to you.
