Re-Logic, Engine Software Announce 'Terraria: Otherworld' For PC And Mac

Terraria fans got a post-Valentine's day present from developer Re-Logic when it announced the new Terraria: Otherworld. The game, which came as a result of the collaboration with Engine Software, will be available for the PC and Mac.

While it is true that the game will inherit a number of the same sandbox systems that fans have loved in the original Terraria, one thing that will set the new game apart is its unique inclusion of a narrative focus.

"Expanding upon the immensely popular action-sandbox title Terraria, exploring what might have been, and approaching gameplay in a new direction; Terraria: Otherworld represents a novel take on the Terraria experience," the official site said.

Terraria: Otherworld was hinted by Re-Logic back in November when it released a 20-second-long video of the game. Though the information about the game seemed very little, the clip had somehow made fans believe that there was a sequel in the pipeline.

However, the game is actually more of a spinoff based on the new announcement.

"The teams at Re-Logic and Engine Software would like to take a few moments to provide the entire Terraria Community with a major announcement," said the Re-Logic Team. "As we hinted earlier in our quite vague 'teaser,' we will be collaborating on a new project that is not Terraria 2, nor anything else that we had discussed before."

A sandbox-style game, Terraria is for those who love Minecraft but hate its various dimensions. The 2D game is more focused and sprite-based. It also stresses combat more than crafting. According to the team at Re-Logic, the game places the player in a struggle between life and death in order to bring back the world's once pristine state.

The team added that the game explores the Terraria gaming experience in a way that is totally innovative and unique, ensuring that players are offered an "open world" genre in a fresh approach.

Other platforms such as the PS4 and Xbox are rumored to be considered in the future. More information will be revealed at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC) where Re-Logic is placing the game on display.
