In the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show held in January, Nvidia took the event by storm when it announced the Tegra X1 mobile chipset, which is able to provide PC-level gaming capabilities to mobile devices.
It seems that Nvidia is not done yet with its groundbreaking announcements, as the company has sent out press invites for an event in San Francisco.
Nvidia did not reveal the purpose of the event slated for Mar. 3, but Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO, president and co-founder of Nvidia, did write a short note on the invite that teases big.
"More than five years in the making, what I want to share with you will redefine the future of gaming," he wrote in the invite that was sent to several publications.
The invite also includes the words "Made to Game" in bold letters across the top, along with the date of the event.
Among the websites that received the invitation is Android Police, which provided a clue on what the event will be about, noted TechShout.
As the website focuses primarily on Android news, its invitation to the Nvidia event means that whatever will be announced on Mar. 3 will have a connection with the mobile operating system developed by Google.
Rumors state that Nvidia may be releasing a successor to the Shield gaming tablet that will feature the recently unveiled Tegra X1 chipset. The previous Shield tablet is powered by Android and offers gamers the feature of streaming games from the PC onto the device's screen.
The successor to the Shield tablet will be expected to retain several popular features, such as optional connectivity with LTE networks and an 8-inch screen. Including the Tegra X1 into the tablet, however, would be a major draw to the device as gamers will be spoiled with a massive 1 teraflop floating point performance.
When Nvidia announced the Tegra X1, no new hardware using the technology was unveiled alongside the new chipset. Nvidia's announcement of the Tegra X1 focused more on the impressive capabilities of the Tegra X1, along with the chipset's applications when used for embedded electronics within the automobile industry.
If the event in March will not announce a new Shield tablet, the most likely thing that Nvidia would unveil is a product or service that combines the Android operating system with the Tegra X1 chipset.
The event is less than a month away, so whatever Nvidia is planning to announce will be revealed soon.
