Netflix is making a lot of exciting movements in its bid to increase the amount of original programming it airs. One such movement, according to a report, is acquiring the rights to make a Legend of Zelda series based on the popular Nintendo video games.
We're not surprised by the tone because Zelda has always been a game for the whole family, and the fact that it is a Nintendo title makes it even more impossible for it to have adult themes.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the newly developed series will be of the live-action variety and should be considered a family-friendly version of Game of Thrones.
We understand that the main storyline will borrow a lot from the video game itself. The lead character, as expected, will be Link, a young man who is on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda and save the land of Hyrule in the process.
At the moment, Netflix hasn't found a writer for the series, so chances are, it could take a very long time before the Zelda Netflix series becomes a reality.
Despite the popularity of the video game, the people at Netflix will have to find the perfect writers and directors to get this series off the ground successfully. We've seen several series and movies based on popular video games fail miserably, but this time around, things might be different since Netflix is working closely with Nintendo.
In the years before, Nintendo gave permission to proceed with the creation of a Zelda TV series. That turned out to be a big mistake, and one of the most terrible animations ever created. The same can be said about the Mario Bros movie, so one can get the idea why Nintendo wants to be involved on a deeper level this time around.
We can't wait to see how Netflix and Nintendo plan to bring Zelda to life, and who will take on the massive task of playing Link and Princess Zelda herself. For now, we doubt the series will air in 2015, but it could begin airing this year should the deal go according to plan.
