Savvy players continue to find secrets in Techland's zombie survival game Dying Light, but this one is a little more involved than most -- a whole new area inspired by Super Mario Bros., complete with goombas and Dying Light's own version of Mario's signature Tanooki suit.
While it isn't hard to reach, it is difficult to stumble upon by yourself. YouTuber Arekkz Gaming discovered the secret and created a step-by-step video on how to find it. Check it out below.
You can find the Super Mario level in the Old Town area of the game. Atop a brick house, inside a chimney, is a green pipe that should look familiar. Using the pipe transports you to first-person Mario platforming world, where players must jump on Dying Light's own version of goombas, avoid falling into pools of blood and jam out to an 8-bit soundtrack. Reach the flag at the end and congratulations! You've completed World 1-1.
Dying Light is particularly suited to Mario's famous style of platforming. Players spend much of their time in Dying Light running, jumping and climbing buildings in order to escape the undead. Techland puts those features to hilarious use here, which just makes you wonder what a first-person Mario platformer might be like.
There is even a secret blueprint hidden in the level as well. If you jump on top of the pink block, you will find a blueprint for an item called the "Pyza Suit." When crafted, the Pyza Suit allows you to glide around the game world, just like Mario when he is wearing his iconic flying raccoon outfit.
This isn't the first Dying Light easter egg players have discovered, but it is the most elaborate. Other easter eggs include a reference to Valve's beloved shooter Half-Life 2, and a nod to Destiny's infamous "loot cave."
