Google has launched a significant feature update for Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 users in the US by introducing its AI-powered Scam Detection feature, which was initially exclusive to Pixel phones.
If you're growing tired of receiving scam calls, this feature is all you need to block unwanted callers, all possible on your wrist.
Google Unveils AI Scam Detection Feature
Google's Scam Detection feature uses AI technology to detect unusual call patterns characteristic of scam calls in real time. The feature is programmed to alert users during a call when it senses a scam attempt. Pixel Watch users who are paired with a supported Pixel phone (Pixel 9 series or newer) will get real-time notifications.
Once the scam is detected, the Pixel Watch will vibrate and emit an audible beep to inform users that there is a scam call ongoing.
Simple Scam Detection Setup
The configuration of the Scam Detection functionality on your Pixel Watch is easily accomplished. It all begins by ensuring that there is an update for the latest Phone app software version on their associated Pixel phone.
After updates have been accessed, users may effortlessly activate the Scam Detection through the location of the setting option within the application and activate it.
Once activated, the watch will begin to screen all incoming calls for signs of a scam. The AI-driven system will evaluate every call and, upon recognizing a suspected scam, users will receive a notification informing them of the attempted fraud.
Features of Scam Detection on Pixel Watch
According to Android Central, the new Scam Detection feature is simple and easy to use. With real-time alerts, users will get an in-call alert through their Pixel Watch.
To not let users miss the alert, an audible chime and vibration will inform the user that the call might be a scam. If a high-risk scam is detected, users can drop the call straight from their Pixel Watch without taking up their phone.
Key Things to Note about Pixel Watch Scam Detection
Scam Detection is a valuable feature, but there are some requirements and limitations to note.
For the feature to function, your Pixel Watch must be paired with a compatible Pixel phone over Bluetooth.
The Scam Detection feature is unavailable for calls made directly over LTE on the Pixel Watch itself. The feature only becomes functional when the watch is paired with a Pixel phone.
Currently, the Scam Detection feature is only present in the US and is enabled in English. It's not known if and when the feature will be made available to other regions or languages.
