Motorola's Edge 60 Fusion Drops With a Wild Canvas Finish—But Is It All Hype?

Its quad-camera capabilities is an area of concern.

Motorola has launched the Edge 60 Fusion, the inaugural smartphone in its new midrange series, featuring a striking faux-canvas design and budget-friendly pricing.

Boasting a slender profile, robust construction, and respectable battery life, this phone is designed to provide style and functionality without spending a fortune. But is it powerful enough to make a difference in the jam-packed midrange market?

A Stylish Twist: Canvas and Faux Leather Finishes

One of the most discussed features of the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion is its special faux-canvas finish, which is only found on the Amazonite (teal) model. The blue and pink versions have a faux leather texture, further enhancing the phone's high-end look.

Durability-wise, the IP68 and IP69 ratings provide dust, water immersion, and high-pressure spray protection, making it one of the most resilient devices in its class.

Sleek Design With Amazing Battery Life

Despite housing a 5,200mAh battery (5,500mAh for certain markets), the Edge 60 Fusion carries a slim frame under 8mm. The 6.67-inch OLED screen provides colorful graphics and blacked-out depths. It's an ideal pick for gamers who have no problem with a midrange handset.

Can the Dimensity Chipset Hold Up?

The Verge highlights that multitasking won't be an issue with the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion thanks to its 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage. That said, its MediaTek Dimensity processor (7300 or 7400, depending on region) is pretty humble, perhaps capping its performance relative to the competition in the same tier.

Camera Features: Is It Truly Quad-Lens?

On the surface, the phone seems to have a quad-camera setup, but that's deceptive. Two of the rear sensors are a flash and a flicker sensor, so only users are left with a 50MP primary shooter and a 13MP ultrawide camera. Although they should be able to take good pictures, they might not hold a candle to more sophisticated smartphone photography settings.

Will It Launch in the US?

The Edge 60 Fusion is set to be the first of a new lineup of Edge 60 phones from Motorola, with additional models in the pipeline. Still, US buyers may not see them, as last year's Edge 50 series never made it to American shores.

American consumers may instead have to make do with the Moto G Power (2024), which, at $299.99, falls short of the OLED display and premium look of the Edge 60 Fusion.

What's Next for Motorola: Razr Flip Phones With Wooden Finish?

Motorola is rumored to be prepping new Razr flip phones coming with a wooden finish—a retro tribute to the 2014 Moto X. If it happens, it would be an unexpected comeback for the brand.
