SpaceX has once again launched its breathtaking cupola into orbit, offering astronauts an unrivaled view of Earth and space.
First introduced during the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, the dome-shaped window has returned aboard Crew Dragon for the Fram2 mission. This latest venture carries four private astronauts on a groundbreaking journey to a polar orbit.
The Largest 'Space Window' For Full Space Viewing
Measuring 2,000 square inches, SpaceX's cupola is the largest single window ever flown into space. It provides a panoramic view of Earth, the stars, and celestial events like sunrises and sunsets from space. However, due to its design, the cupola-equipped Crew Dragon cannot dock with the International Space Station (ISS), as the window replaces the standard docking port, according to Digital Trends.
Instead, missions like Fram2 focus on free-flying orbital experiences for private astronauts.
Fram2 is also the second mission to fly with Dragon's cupola. At nearly 4' wide, the cupola is the largest continuous window in space, providing 360° views pic.twitter.com/BvvyR7FCPN

SpaceX Unveils the Cupola's Advanced Design
Following the Fram2 launch, SpaceX released an in-depth look at the cupola, highlighting its respectable engineering features. SpaceX engineer Ben Kolodner said that the cupola is more than just a window—it's an important part of the Crew Dragon spacecraft.
Astronauts can enjoy a breathtaking view of the planet while riding on this glass dome. Kolodner said that its specialized coating can regulate internal temperatures thanks to its structure made from acrylic and polycarbonate.
Aside from that, its outer layer shields the passenger against space debris, such as micrometeorites while the middle layer acts as a pressure barrier to maintain structural integrity. Lastly, its inner layer provides additional safety from potential impacts inside the capsule.
In other news, Tech Times reported that the newly proposed Texas state bills aim to give SpaceX massive control over the beaches and the public during the spaceship launches.
This means that SpaceX will have the authority to issue closures in roads and coastal areas for the weekday launches. This also implies that establishments need to comply with the closure orders as indicated in the third bill.
