The company's co-founder and most recent CEO, Anne Wojcicki, has announced the fate of her DNA testing company, 23andMe, via X, sharing that the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
"We have had many successes but I equally take accountability for the challenges we have today. There is no doubt that the challenges faced by 23andMe through an evolving business model have been real, but my belief in the company and its future is unwavering," said Wojcicki.
She likewise announced that she is leaving her post as the company's CEO during this bankruptcy process to become an independent bidder for 23andMe as it is now in the process of selling off its assets to bidders.

What Wojcicki focused on in the announcement is offering users privacy and security amidst the bankruptcy filing, and according to The Verge, 23andMe will continue their regular operations amidst this so users may access their profiles.
This gives its customers the chance to access their accounts and have their information partially deleted from the company's database. To start, users only need to login into their 23andMe accounts and then head to "Settings" to access "23andMe Data."
Next, complete the age verification process and look for the option to either download your data first before deleting the 23andMe account. Users may also opt to go straight to deleting their accounts and wiping their data on the platform.
Lastly, wait for the company's email confirming the account deletion and proceed.
