This gives its customers the chance to access their accounts and have their information partially deleted from the company's database. To start, users only need to login into their 23andMe accounts and then head to "Settings" to access "23andMe Data."

Next, complete the age verification process and look for the option to either download your data first before deleting the 23andMe account. Users may also opt to go straight to deleting their accounts and wiping their data on the platform.

Lastly, wait for the company's email confirming the account deletion and proceed.

The Controversial DNA Testing Company, 23andMe

23andMe has been known for helping the public learn more about their genetic profile, including discovering lingering ailments or diseases. However, operations haven't been smooth sailing for the company. It has been plagued by various privacy and security issues, with various hacks and data breaches pestering the company over the past years.

One of the promises of using 23andMe's services is its easy process of submitting genetic tests, particularly as it only requires a kit that users can easily use at home and at their convenience. The main selling point of the company is how they can study one's DNA using only saliva samples that users may send over after creating a profile, only paying $199 for the entire experience.

Moreover, 23andMe has claimed that they keep genetic information in anonymity for their customers, and they are separate from the personal information that users submit to their platform. However, the company did not live up to its promises entirely, as it was plagued by many issues in its operations, leading to its current bankruptcy filing.
