Your OnePlus Watch is getting extended software updates.

The latest releases from OnePlus on their smartwatch development were initially a letdown for many users as they were only promised two years of updates. The good news is the company seems to have changed its mind and is willing to provide more support.

An additional year may sound like a small thing, but it is actually a big deal for the longevity of a device.

OnePlus Watches Get 3 Years of Update, Support 'Til 2027

Android Central shared a report that brings good news for OnePlus Watch users, particularly as OnePlus has clarified that users who own their wearables are set to receive three years of support.

The latest clarification from OnePlus adds an extra year of software updates for its smartwatches, particularly for the OnePlus Watch 2 as well as the upcoming OnePlus Watch 3.

OnePlus' smartwatch operating system support fiasco stemmed from miscommunication on details as the company previously said that it would only release "three version updates." The company has now clarified this and said that it actually meant "three years of quarterly security updates."

Extended Wearable Support From OnePlus

This means that users will have an extra year to enjoy with their OnePlus smartwatches, with the OnePlus Watch 2 getting the Wear OS 6 that is expected in 2026, and the Watch 3 reportedly getting Wear OS 7 by 2027.

OnePlus is now matching the promise made by Google for Pixel Watch users as they are also getting three years of support. However, both fall short to Samsung's four years of Wear OS updates for Galaxy Watch devices.

Smartwatch Support and Longevity

Smartphones do have not many problems when it comes to longevity and support as companies like Google have already promised that its Pixel smartphones will receive seven years of new updates and security tweaks, and that goes a long way.

However, the same cannot be said for smartwatches as they infamously receive shorter operating system updates, making them obsolete a lot faster.

While the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 from 2021 is already running at an impressive three-year operation, the company has announced that it is shutting down the Tizen OS, which affects its older releases. The good thing is that Wear OS will now be the standard, with Google's new smartwatch operating system promising a longer support for devices adopting it.
