The upcoming mid-range phone. from Nothing is set to be unveiled next month, but the company has a teaser that has shaken things up for the entire industry. The phone will now reportedly use a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm.

Over the past three years since it debuted, Carl Pei's tech startup has featured the MediaTek chipsets to power its smartphones, which also helped with its cheaper pricing.

In addition, the company has teased that the public can expect a new "elite" performance as well.

Nothing Teases Snapdragon Chip for Phone 3a Series

The era of MediaTek-powered Nothing smartphones has come to an end, as the company has confirmed via X that it will no longer use the chips from its previous partner as it is moving on with Qualcomm. Starting with the Phone 3a series, Nothing will feature the renowned smartphone chipset from Qualcomm, with a Snapdragon chip powering its performance and other functions.

That being said, Nothing's latest announcement did not talk about specifics about the chip that will power its mid-range smartphone, and the company only showed a photo holding a Snapdragon chipset.

Qualcomm and MediaTek have been rivals in the smartphone industry for a long time, but it is known that brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, and more have utilized Snapdragon chips, especially for flagship models.

MediaTek to Qualcomm: 'Elite' Performance Coming

The Phone 3a series is not Nothing's flagship lineup, and this may mean that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite is out of the picture as it is on the more expensive side, which does not make it favorable for the budget-friendly device.

Nothing teased that "elite" performance is coming for Phone 3a, and according to rumors, the upcoming release would instead feature the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which is fit for the budget-conscious device and still brings a boost to its performance.

Nothing and its Unique Smartphone Development

One of the best words to describe Nothing's technological development is that it is unique, and the company has proven this over the years with its massive releases encompassing its flagship and mid-range releases. Since its first release in 2022, Nothing featured the MediaTek Dimensity chipset to power its smartphones, with last year's Phone (2a) Plus getting the Dimensity 7350 Pro 5G.

Because of Nothing's success, the company launched its subsidiary brand that will focus on accessories to improve what the company has to offer with its tech releases and complement its development. However, CMF debuted its Phone 1, featuring a MediaTek chip, which was a massive hit among the public, selling 100,000 units in only three hours during its first release last year.
