OpenAI is spearheading a project to build more data centers for its AI advancements via a new company called Stargate, but X's owner and billionaire Elon Musk was quick to dispel these claims, regarding that what the AI company is saying is not true. The reply prompted a response from OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, but it was only after several hours that the executive shared heated words against the billionaire.
While there are no further exchanges on the executives from the thread, both are explicitly seen to still have bad blood against the other, with many claiming this to be one of the biggest CEO beefs of the year.
Elon Musk, Sam Altman Engage On a Heated Social Media Debate
The fiery and heated exchanges between Sam Altman and Elon Musk began last Wednesday, January 22, when OpenAI shared a post claiming that Stargate is looking to start its business with a $500 billion fund to build new AI infrastructure data centers. Musk was quick to claim that OpenAI is not entirely truthful, saying that the company does not have the money to continue with the venture.
Moreover, Musk also mentioned that SoftBank has $10 billion secured for the venture, and he has that "on good authority."
Altman responded to Musk with words of praise and respect for the executive, but he did not address the claims by the billionaire immediately by saying that the X owner is "the most inspiring entrepreneur of our time."
That being said, Altman later followed up by replying to his reply on the thread saying that Musk is wrong, then inviting the billionaire to visit their first site, and gave Musk parting words about using his "new role," as the head of DOGE, to put the United States first.

Is Stargate Legit? Musk and Altman Have Differing Views
The tech CEOs' debate centers on whether or not Stargate is legitimate, especially with its massive claims of pushing forth a $500 billion plan to build data centers all over the country to supply OpenAI with new AI infrastructure. On one hand, Musk claims that OpenAI is not being truthful, while Altman claims that it is real and wants the tech mogul to take a gander.
That being said, Musk claimed that "Sam [Altman] is a swindler" in a separate reply to an X user criticizing the OpenAI CEO.
Elon Musk and Sam Altman's Massive Beef
Drake and Kendrick Lamar may have had the biggest beef in the hip-hop industry last year, but in the tech world, it wasthe back-and-forth jabs between Elon Musk and Sam Altman that rocked the AI world. It is known that Musk was a former shareholder and co-founder of OpenAI, but after their falling out, their relationship took a nosedive, with Musk known for openly criticizing Altman through the years.
Musk is also known for filing, withdrawing, and reopening the case against OpenAI for their alleged breach in an agreement among founders that sought to keep the renowned AI company a non-profit for humanity's benefit. However, OpenAI retaliated against Musk by bringing email receipts featuring conversations with the tech billionaire who previously approved of the business' revamp.
Altman and OpenAI regarded that Musk was in favor of their transformation as a for-profit business when he would also benefit from the change, but according to the company, Musk was not given his way which was why he quit and went against them. Now, Musk is targeting OpenAI's new Stargate business with controversial claims about its funding, but while Altman first paid respect to the tech mogul, he claimed that the Tesla CEO's claims were wrong and their team would be happy to prove their latest venture.
