The arrival of iOS 18.3's release candidate for developers earlier today has shared many of the exciting new features to try, especially for its generative AI, but one of the largest changes here is that Apple Intelligence is now enabled automatically. Before this, Apple gave the choice for users to opt in on the features brought by Apple Intelligence before it appeared on their devices.
Apple Intelligence is still the latest and most advanced development from the Cupertino tech giant for its iPhones, iPads, and Macs, with the company looking to expand more capabilities and features for users to enjoy.
Apple Intelligence Features Enabled Automatically on iOS 18.3
MacRumors shared a discovery on iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3's release candidates (RC) as Cupertino tweaked Apple Intelligence's availability that will automatically enable the technology and its features on eligible devices. After updating the device and finishing the setup, users would find that their devices would have Apple Intelligence turned on by default.
Previously, Apple set Apple Intelligence features off by default, and this allowed users to choose which generative AI experiences would be available on their devices, for them to turn on.
Basically, Apple took away the option for users to choose the features that will be enabled by their devices, and opting-in is no longer in the books for users after setup, as the technology is turned on automatically.

Here's How to Opt Out of Apple Intelligence Features
The good thing is that users still have a chance to opt out of Apple Intelligence features on their iOS 18.3-updated devices. After finishing the setup process of the software update, users may head on over to Settings to either scroll or search for Apple Intelligence & Siri, then toggle the features off to opt out of the experience.
Through this method, users would have to manually choose which Apple Intelligence features will stay enabled and that will be turned off. That being said, the controversial Notification Summaries feature from Apple will be turned off by default as it faced massive problems over the past weeks.
Apple Intelligence and What It Offers Eligible Users
Generative AI has been the top technology the world has seen among their everyday devices and experiences, and Apple only joined the race late last year, particularly on October 2028 when it was first released. With this slow start for Apple, many users feel underwhelmed with what Apple Intelligence has to offer, but there is still massive hope for AI.
One of the top features of Apple Intelligence is its capability to summarize notifications from the Notification Center so that when users take a gander at them, they will receive the gist of messages, updates, and more. However, it recently ran into a 'hallucination' problem where it would share fake news or misleading information to users, especially on news and entertainment content.
That being said, Apple has made it so that iOS 18.3 would improve the experiences for users, with Apple Intelligence's Notification Summary temporarily disabled by the company for them to work on the feature. For those who will be upgrading to iOS 18.3 once it drops, expect that Apple Intelligence and its features will be turned on automatically, but for those who want to avoid it, there is still a way to opt-out.
