Gone are the days when generative artificial intelligence platforms are scraping websites illegally, particularly the Big Tech companies who have faced these complaints, with Google's latest move partnering with the Associated Press (AP). This latest partnership successfully granted Google a way to feature the news stories from AP, securing the license for Gemini AI.

With this move, Google ensures that users who are searching for information via Gemini AI will get the chance to access real-time and updated information from the Associated Press, complete with the world's latest developments.

Google Successfully Licenses Associated Press For Gemini AI

Google announced its latest venture towards growing more of Gemini AI's content, with the company going the proper route of licensing news and other types of content via its latest partnership with the Associated Press. AP is best knownto be one of the most credible and trusted sources on global happenings, with Google now getting access to everything from its publication for AI users to enjoy.

It was revealed that Google has long worked with the Associated Press regarding the delivery of timely news and real-time information to users, but they are now working towards sharing this content via Gemini.

According to AP Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Kristin Heitmann, "AP and Google's longstanding relationship is based on working together to provide timely, accurate news and information to global audiences."

Gemini to Feature Real-time and Updated AP News Content

With this latest collaboration, Google's Gemini is getting access to a feed of real-time and updated content from the Associated Press, featuring their renowned news pieces and more. While there is still no confirmation on how this feed will appear to users, it will first be available to paid users who are subscribed to Google Workspace's Business tier subscribers starting today, with Enterprise users getting the experience later this month.

That being said, it was not revealed what tiers on the personal Gemini subscription will get access to AP's news and other licensed content as of this writing.

News Publications License Their Content to Gen. AI

OpenAI was among the first to offer licensing deals to news publications and companies which invite them to a dealwhere they will get paid, in exchange for their content that would be available to access via ChatGPT. The company forged massive partnerships with the likes of Axel Springer, which owns the likes of Business Insider and Politico, and later expanded with Vox Media and more.

The United Kingdom's BBC (British Broadcasting Channel), on the other hand, took new steps that offered their human-made content for AI companies to license, going alongside their plans to expand their content using generative AI. However, the government-funded outlet is known for still holding out against OpenAI after the company's alleged and unconsented data scraping.

Google is known for going massive on licensing content from the internet for the development and improvement of its artificial intelligence models, particularly as it signed a deal with Reddit worth $60 million to use its data for training. Now, Google is working towards licensing news content for Gemini AI to feature and bring directly to users, forging a licensing deal with the Associated Press.
